Now THAT would make for a great story to tell the grandkids! Love is in the air in Asda Toryglen this Valentine’s Day, as the supermarket is launching special baskets for those open to being approached and finding love. Something out of a Hallmark rom-com, shoppers could create their own meet-cutes, ditching those endless, identical chats on dating apps for real-life risk-taking.
Asda conducted a study on 2,000 individuals for Valentine’s Day, revealing 64% already had an eye on someone locally, while 87% said they prefer face-to-face interactions to apps. Plus, 94% shared the sentiment that modern dating is hard to navigate, while a whopping 77% of singles said they are not currently active on dating apps!
While eight in ten people confess to being shy about asking for someone’s number in real life, Asda is lending a helping hand by introducing red baskets to their Toryglen Glasgow store this February 14 on Valentine’s Day.

If you pick up the red basket when doing your shopping, you’re signalling that you’re open to being approached, as well as able to approach others with red baskets. Don’t be shy, as someone has to take the leap for love to bloom!
A spokesperson for Asda said: “We know people are craving real-life connections, but we also know our customers are busy and don’t always have the time to put themselves out there. That’s why we’re turning the weekly shop into the ultimate meet-cute. These red baskets are a fun, light-hearted way to help people connect while they’re already doing their everyday shop – a simple, playful nudge to start a chat and maybe even spark a little romance.”
