One of the greatest musicians and songwriters of all time, Bob Dylan, owns an estate in our very own Scottish Highlands. For the last 17 years, Bob Dylan has owned a historic mansion known as Aultmore House in Nethy Bridge in the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland. However, the artist has now listed the property for sale for a “modest” starting price of £3,000,000.
Bob Dylan was unable to visit Aultmore House since the Covid-19 pandemic, which has now prompted the sale of the massive Edwardian architectural treasure. The iconic Edwardian Country manor was built in 1914 and has been carefully maintained: some significant renovations in 2007/8 brought the wiring, heating, and water systems to more modern ways while maintaining the building’s original features. Greeted with a private tree-lined driveway, the mansion spans over 18,357 square feet and includes 16 bedrooms, each with garden views, as well as 11 bathrooms.
While we’re still wondering who REALLY needs that much space, the impressive home is still a marvel to witness. Just look at it! The entry hall features a limestone staircase with wrought iron and wooden balustrade, while there are four reception rooms, a music room (obviously) and feature Adam-style marble fireplaces. The dining, sitting, drawing and billiards rooms include open fireplaces, and the multiple entertainment areas include a lounge, sunroom, and garden room.
Three kitchens (again, not sure how you would use so many kitchens), plus a basement that includes store rooms, a workshop, and a coal cellar complete the home. The land boasts a generous 25 acres of landscaped grounds including stunning gardens with fountains, statues, and stone gazebos, as well as three cottages that have been rented as holiday homes.
Aultmore House is located within the spectacular Cairngorms National Park, about an hour’s drive from the Royal Balmoral Estate and The Secret Scottish Pyramid. The area is known for its bird life, with ospreys and the rare capercaillie nesting nearby, with ample opportunities for hiking, biking, and fishing, with one of Scotland’s best fishing locations, River Sprey, nearby.
Visitors can also embark on the Malt Whisky Trail nearby, and numerous castles are within a short drive. And we’re not even going to start on the golf courses, as that’s just kind of a given in Scotland. Private and secluded, the estate offers a sublime opportunity to get away from the city. Bob Dylan put so much work into Aultmore House, so let’s hope the next owners will love the manor just as much.
