As if the elysian fresco adorning the ceilings of the Sistine Chapel weren’t stunning enough, imagine those cherubic faces, billowing robes and outstretched fingers bathed in the flickering glow of candlelight. Well, now you won’t have to imagine, as a spellbinding Candlelight Concert will be unfolding among the riveting renderings of Glasgow’s Sistine Chapel Exhibition. You’ll get to sit back and relax as the sublime melodies of Ludovico Einaudi fill the hall of Braehead Shopping Centre on August 8.
This fusion of amazing artistry and soothing, meditative music is sure to be a treat for the eyes and ears. Be sure to arrive early so you can witness the exhibition before the concert starts. In a simple stroll, you can soak up Michelangelo’s masterpiece up close; peering at coiled serpents, seeing David slay Goliath and resisting the urge to goochie-goo at the pudgy-faced babies. Then, you’ll be able to take a seat among the canvases, as the lights dim and the soft glow of candlelight dances across the painted figures, making for an unforgettable atmosphere.
There will be two performances on the night, one at 6pm and the other at 8.30pm. So, whether you’re after a dose of candlelit goodness straight after work or fancy grabbing dinner first, there’ll be a time to suit your preference. Once you arrive you can grab your choice of tipple from the fully-stocked bar to sip as the piano’s tinkling notes help the stress of the day melt away. Talented pianist Ailsa Aitkenhead will be the one blessing your ears on the evening, performing a variety of famous Einaudi pieces, such as Divenire, Experience, I Giorni and Ora.
If you’ve dreamed of jetting off to Italy – seeing the Sistine Chapel ceiling in all its historic glory and unwinding with a loved one by candlelight – but can’t quite find the time at the moment then this is your answer.
