A brand new holiday park might be popping up two hours from Glasgow, as Center Parcs has revealed a new zoning plan ahead of submitting a planning application later this year for the Scottish Borders. The new details are not yet final and could change, but it’s great to have a wee nosey at.
Center Parcs currently boasts six parks across the UK and Ireland, with over 35 years of experience in offering family holidays. Located three miles from Hawick in the Scottish Borders, the new village could have up to 700 lodges and apartments, a signature Aqua Sana Forest Spa, a Subtropical Swimming Paradise indoor water park, and both indoor and outdoor leisure and sports facilities, as well as shops, restaurants, bars and coffee shops and a local heritage centre.
What is more, the construction phase is set to create up to 800 jobs, while around 1,200 new permanent job roles would be introduced once the Center Parcs holiday park is open at the Scottish Borders. The investment is set to cost £400 million to complete, with the final details not yet confirmed.
Moreover, the project has plans to enhance surrounding woodland areas creating new biodiversity initiatives, such as wetlands, wildflower meadows, and lochs. The total investment project is set to cost between £350 million and £400 million.
The opening date of Center Parcs in Scotland
Center Parcs should be opening in 2029 in the Scottish Borders.
Colin McKinlay, chief executive of Center Parcs, told BBC Radio Scotland: “All being well, we’d like to submit a planning application by the summer… once that’s done, we are a little bit in the hands of the process.
“But, if we’re successful, I would envisage us moving forward to a programme that would start building probably early in 2027 and hopefully opening as early as spring 2029.”
“This early-stage plan provides a foundation for thoughtful development, ensuring that environmental, heritage, and community factors remain central to our approach. We are committed to listening to the local community as we refine our plans over the coming months, with the aim of submitting a formal planning application in the summer.”
“We truly appreciate the feedback and engagement from those who attended today’s event and look forward to continuing these important conversations at our upcoming consultation events.”
