Chocolate tastes good at the best of times, but do you know what makes it sweeter? Chocolate from a local chocolatier. There are multiple independent chocolate shops in Glasgow and the surrounding areas offering an array of handmade and decadent chocolates to savour for all occasions. 1. Chocolat Blanc
Located in Hamilton, around eight miles from Glasgow city centre, Chocolat Blanc has been making chocolates at their shop since 2013 and remains a firm favourite with locals. This chocolate shop offers DIY chocolate making kits, which include everything to make four chocolate lollipops and two hot chocolate stirrers, plus you can choose from dark, milk and white chocolate. Chocolat Blanc also offers a number of chocolate gifts at reasonable prices such as artisan chocolate boxes featuring the likes of milk chocolate salted caramels, dark chocolate violet creams and marbled caramel biscuit cups. Plus, Chocolat Blanc also offer giant marshmallows dipped in chocolate, handmade Jazzies (remember those?) and chocolate bars for you to enjoy.

2. Yer Maw Sells Chocolate
Based in the heart of Glasgow, their online shop is definitely worth having a browse at. Yer Maw Sells Chocolate is a family-run business which produces fun chocolate creations with colourful and unique designs. On their website it says: “So wither yer lookin to treat yersel or someone special, ye can count oan Yer Maw tae put a smile oan yer face.” And they’re not wrong. The chocolate shop offers chocolate slabs studded with unbelievable toppings such as Lotus biscuits, Mint Aero, Kinder Hippos, and penny sweets reminiscent of those found in the pick ‘n’ mix aisle. Some other unique creations made by Yer Maw include chocolate slabs emblazoned with with classic Glaswegian phrases such as ‘dobber’ and ‘bawbag’, which can only be described as delicious and charming.
3. Chocolat Box
This Paisley gem is a chocolate lover’s haven. Their chocolates vary in flavours such as milk roasted macadamia and salted caramel, raspberry and prosecco, white Nutella crunch and dark lime creams. There are other treats to choose from including their bars such as cookies and cream; chilli; stem ginger; and violet petal, plus a selection of chocolate coated nuts. Chocolat Box also stocks build a chocolate bar and chocolate pizza kits that will go down well with all ages, alongside handmade chocolate dipped strawberries for some pure indulgence and luxury.

4. The Cocoabean Company
According to this Glasgow chocolate shop’s website, it began in 2005 with the founder melting chocolate on her home AGA. The Cocoabean Company, which has closed its Intu Braehead store, still offers delectable chocolate on their online store perfect to enjoy whenever. You can order personalised gift hampers in small and large sizes filled with an array of chocolatey treats, as well as hot chocolate bombs and chocolate slabs. However, their whopper of a chocolate bar is quite a showstopper! Weighing in at 5kg, it is quite incredible. The Cocoabean Company is perfect if you’re looking to send someone a little slice (or bite) of Scotland, especially with their beautiful Scottish-themed chocolate hampers featuring a chocolate Scottie dog, tablet and fudge pieces, shortbread and a chocolate bar decorated with a thistle. Plus the factory doesn’t waste their misshaped chocolates as you can buy a lucky box of tasty yet unusually-shaped chocolates for just £5.
5. Sugarsnap
If you’re in search of elegant chocolates this Finnieston chocolate shop could be the place to visit. The chocolates at Sugarsnap have a marvellous sheen to their shells and are decorated in interesting patterns such as such as geometric, or they can be made bespoke to your desires. Sugarsnap’s chocolate bars are also works of art with beautiful paint-splattered designs and intriguing flavours like lemon marshmallow, blueberry and violet, coffee and pecan with a blond ganache, plus orange and chilli. The chocolates in their artisan collection boxes are so aesthetically-pleasing you may not want to eat them, however they feature a balance of milk, dark and white chocolate ganaches, dujas and caramels increasing the temptation to devour them all. The shop is currently closed due to flooding but we hope Sugarsnap is back up and running soon.
