Armed Forces Day is upon us, and First Bus is launching a UK-wide initiative to celebrate. On Saturday, June 28, all serving Armed Forces members, veterans and cadets can travel for free on the operator’s buses, including in Glasgow.
As First Bus has a long affiliation with the Armed Forces community and a long history of colleagues who served, the news comes as no surprise.
Any person travelling to an organised event wearing uniforms of the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force and any associated cadet force can hitch a free ride across all of its UK bus networks.
Furthermore, free travel is allowed if a person is in possession of a current Ministry of Defence-issued card with their branch of military service indicated. Plus, any First Bus drivers who have previously served in the forces are also encouraged to wear their associated military attire.
Martin Hirst, Director of Revenue and Customer Proposition, First Bus, said: “This is an important occasion for many people who want to remember family, friends and others who have been lost in military service.
“We have several veterans working for First Bus across our businesses, and we’re very proud of their efforts and sacrifice.
“This is our way of saying thank you to them, as well as honouring all men and women who choose to serve and protect the freedoms of our country”.
