Crazy golf, cocktails and catch ups with your mates sounds like a pretty good set-up and Glaswegians shouldn’t wait too long make it a reality… So, without further ado, let’s get straight into Fore Play. Nope, that’s not a euphemism, that’s genuinely the name of the place: the imaginatively-titled Fore Play Crazy Golf near Cessnock is the object of today’s affections. Home to eighteen holes of Glasgow-themed golf and a nifty cocktail garden, it’s an excellent reminder that you should never skip Fore Play.
Anyway, all euphemisms aside, Fore Play is the surest route to a banging night of fun (ok fine, one more). Eighteen holes of adventure await you here; taking inspiration from the industrial history of Glasgow, guests can expect to putt their way through the Clyde Ship Tunnel, nine-foot cone hole hazards, and the iconic Finnieston Crane. Having navigated your way home after many a night out on the town, we’re pretty confident that you can navigate the mini Glasgow represented here on the course – albeit maybe not quite under par.
Admittedly, you may not be entirely sober either, given that Fore Play’s cocktail garden tempts many a visitor to kick back with a victory drink after successfully vanquishing both friend and foe alike. A new addition after the return of hospitality in 2021, the garden offers space for up to 100 people and per the website, it’s “just the spot to spend the Scottish summer (and all 4 seasons that come with it).” Pictures in the venue’s hot pink golf cart – codenamed Cartii B – are a rite of passage, meanwhile.
The bar is stocked with draught beers, wines, and an excellent array of cocktails and mocktails. The tropical-inspired Putter’s Paradise looks sure to be a hit, whilst the Long Iron Iced Tea is one you’ll probably want to nurse for a few holes. Finally, any late-breaking heatwaves should probably be accompanied by the Match-Play Margarita: a frozen marg topped off with Haribo.
Street food heros Loaded are running the food at Fore Play Crazy Golf, and the ‘scran’ menu is full of wise choices. Personally, I’m eyeballing the Korean Cauliflower and Loaded Beef Fries for starters, but there’s just something about a Loaded burger that fills the stomach and warms the soul. All in all, there’s only one conclusion here: satisfaction is guaranteed through Fore Play.
