Scotland’s busiest station has been closed since Sunday, March 8, and is officially reopening its doors (even though only partially) tomorrow (March 18). While the low-level services have resumed earlier, some high-level platforms will now start operating partial services.
ScotRail posted on Instagram today (March 17), saying: “⚠️Some ScotRail services to resume at Glasgow Central high level as station partially reopens tomorrow.
ScotRail will begin running trains from Glasgow Central high level tomorrow (Wednesday, 18 March) after a partial reopening of the station was confirmed today, following the significant fire on Union Street.
Platforms seven to 15 on the west side of the station will be back in use from the start of service on Wednesday.
The train operator is running as many services as possible, but with a reduced number of platforms available, and limited entry and exit points for customers, this will not allow for the return of trains on all routes that normally operate.”
Which services will resume at Glasgow Central station after reopening?
From the start of service on Wednesday, the following will operate: ⤵️
🔵Ayr and Glasgow Central – a half-hourly service, calling at all stations between Paisley Gilmour Street – Kilwinning (Johnstone / Milliken Park / Howwood / Lochwinnoch / Glengarnock / Dalry).
🔵Gourock and Glasgow Central – an hourly service, calling at all stations.
🔵Wemyss Bay and Glasgow Central – an hourly service, calling at all stations.
🔵Kilmarnock and Glasgow Central – a half-hourly service, calling at all stations (integrated with normal Carlisle/South Ayrshire services).
🔵East Kilbride and Glasgow Central – a half-hourly service.
🔵Lanark and Glasgow Central – an hourly service.
The low-level platforms are going back to a full timetable, which serves routes from Cumbernauld, Whifflet, Larkhall, and Motherwell to Dalmuir, Balloch, and Milngavie.
ScotRail continued: “ScotRail staff will be on hand at Hope Street to guide and support customers to and from platforms. This will include entry and exit for customers via an entrance on Hope Street, known as the carriage driveway, which is used during special events and is normally for vehicular access.”
Which entrances will remain closed at Glasgow Central Station?
The following entrances will remain closed at Glasgow Central Station after reopening on Wednesday, March 18:
