The Golden Globes 2022 lacked the usual glitz and glamour of the ceremony. There was no red carpet, no celebrity fanfare and no savage monologue by Ricky Gervais. The super scaled down event took place at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton hotel where winners were announced in a private awards ceremony. It was a big year for Australian artists with Nicole Kidman, Sarah Snook and Kodi Smit-McPhee walking away with top honours. 1. Mare of Easttown
Led by a brilliant Kate Winslet, Mare of Easttown centers around a detective caught in the middle of a murder investigation in Pennsylvania. The show perfectly explores the dark side of living in a community and becomes increasingly addictive with each episode. 2. West Side Story
Its a mammoth task to replicate West Side Story (1961) and not that it needed a refreshing but Steven Spielberg manages to put his own spin to the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet. The dazzling dance numbers are best enjoyed on the big screen and Ariana DeBose is truly incandescent in her role. The movie is set to eventually stream on HBO Max and Disney+.

3. Succession
If you haven’t watched Succession yet, you’re seriously missing out. The series centers on the dysfunctional Roy family and their massive media conglomerate. The writing is witty and sharp and the performances incredibly engaging, making for brilliant social-political satire. Think Arrested Development meets Shakespeare. 4. Hacks
Jean Smart who was also brilliant in the earlier mentioned Mare of Easttown won the award for best performance by an actress in a television series, musical or comedy after sweeping the Emmy awards earlier this year too. The show is a gripping commentary on women in film and is as eye-opening as it is hilarious. It’s available to watch on Stan.

5. The Power of the Dog
Benedict Cumberbatch stars in this brutal psychological drama which deals with themes of grief, resentment and jealousy. Although the pace of the movie isn’t for everyone, the sensational performances and cinematography make this quiet movie a must-watch. You can stream it now on Netflix.

7. Being the Ricardos
This biographical drama film written and directed by Aaron Sorkin explores the relationship between Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz portrayed by Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem respectively.
