Even after Christmas Day it seems the festive, community spirit that we see more of during the build-up to the celebrations is still going strong in the city and being carried into the new year. One Glasgow bar in particular is continuing with its sense of solidarity and hospitable ways by hosting a free New Year’s Day dinner that anyone can attend.
The Hug and Pint on Great Western Road is inviting Glaswegians to enjoy a three-course vegan meal on January 1 between 11am and 5pm, plus it’s the perfect way to kick off Veganuary. There will be no alcohol served alongside the New Year’s Day meal but the bar has promised there will be plenty of free tea, coffee and soft drinks on offer for diners.
The vegan bar, restaurant and music venue shared a post about the community meal adding: “Please share this if you can and feel free to tell anyone else about it you think might enjoy it or would benefit from having a place to hang out on New Year’s Day.”
The food on The Hug and Pint’s menu is inspired by a wide range of Asian cuisines, whilst the live music programme features both local artists and international acts. Their menu is full of vegetarian and vegan food like the jackfruit curry served with jasmine rice or mushroom rice pudding with pickled onion and crispy shallots- the perfect comfort food for a winter’s day.
