What a time to be alive! Scotland is off to the World Cup this year, being celebrated as a Bank Holiday on June 15. And now, Irn-Bru has launched a new World Cup anthem featuring some famous Scottish names, including Susan Boyle, John McGin, Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos, comedian Paul Black, and May Miller.
‘We’re Made in Scotland from Girders’ champions Scottish football fans with its cheeky lyrics, and Susan Boyle breakdancing is the true highlight we all never knew we needed. Inspired by their original 1980s advert, Irn-Bru continues to support Scottish sports with its newest World Cup ad campaign.
The chorus of the ad kicks off by John McGinn, and Susan Boyle singing on top of the Forth Bridge, before cutting to the singer breakdancing. Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos is also shown playing the guitar, while Paul Black delivers a side-splitting showcase of American culture.
The lyrics are absolutely hilarious, such as “We may not be the pundit’s favourites to win, but what we lack in flair is made up with McGinn,” “Then clench those buttcheeks and pray”, and “We’re made in Scotland from girders / Where there’s girders there’s a way.”
Susan Boyle said: “I never thought I’d be belting out an anthem on top of a bridge or breakdancing but it just goes to show that anything’s possible when you’re Made in Scotland from Girders.
“It’s been brilliant fun, a bit bonkers but in the best way. The anthem is for the fans and everyone loudly showing their support – carrying the roar of a nation with them, from the first kick to the final whistle.”
Kenny Nicholson, Director of Brand at IRN-BRU, said: “Scotland fans have experienced it all during the last 28 years – the true definition of being Made from Girders.
“This moment is decades in the making and this anthem is a rallying cry for the fans. It celebrates what it means to be a supporter. We can’t wait to hear it being bellowed out as they follow the action this summer – whether that’s watching home or away.”
