Glasgow was named the best city for a weekend getaway this year, being acknowledged for its art, culture outdoor, leisure, sports, tourism, food and drink and shopping. While there are plenty of things to do around the city on any given day, accommodation can often make or break your trip. However, what if we told you nice hotels don’t have to cost an arm and your first-born child, and the Leonardo Royal Hotel Glasgow offers just that: a decent stay for a reasonable price, all with views over the River Clyde.
Leonardo Royal Hotel Glasgow is located on Jamaica Street across the road from River Clyde, boasting eleven floors of newly refurbished rooms. What is more, its location provides convenient rail links, with Glasgow Central station pretty much next door, and Glasgow Queen Street just a wee 10-minute walk away.
Secret Glasgow got the chance to go try the spot out for ourselves and experience everything the refurbished building has to offer. Upon first glance, the hotel boasts soft, earthy luxury with the elegant touches of patterned rugs, gold tones and green velvet, creating a well-rounded first impression, including the open plan Leo’s bar and restaurant visible from the entrance.
The rooms themselves offer a modern touch with green hues and light wood, with The White Company toiletries (yay!) and everything one might need from a decent hotel room. Plus, it certainly helps when the beds are extremely comfortable!
Moreover, our favourite part was the breakfast. Leo’s restaurant graces guests with a front-of-the-house egg station with a chef to cook eggs for you just how they like it. I mean, who doesn’t love omelettes with everything?! The buffet-style brekkie also boasts a Full English and/or Scottish Breakfast, porridge, pancakes and everything else one could expect at a hotel breakfast. However, we could not get over the hummus. You MUST try the hummus.
The hotel also boasts a gym, so visitors can stay in shape even when they’re away, leaving no excuse for skipping a workout. Expect weights, yoga mats and standard gym equipment such as a treadmill.
Overall, the Leonardo Royal Hotel is one of the best options in the city for those who don’t just wish to opt for the cheapest option, but want something lovely for a reasonable price. The rooms start as low as £318 for two nights, with triple rooms available for convenience.
