Travelling between Glasgow and London via train is usually quite expensive, with many passengers choosing to fly rather than travel on the ground. However, Lumo has now introduced a more affordable train service, linking Glasgow and London via the East Coast of the UK.
The popular open-access train operator Lumo, which is already operating between Edinburgh and London, is introducing a new train service between Scotland’s biggest city and the capital.
The new route is getting extended to Glasgow Queen Street Station in December of this year, also stopping at Falkirk High and Newcastle. What is more, Spring 2026 will see another new route between Stirling and London along the West Coast.
What is more, advance tickets to London in 2026 start from just £33.10 booking directly with Lumo, while advance tickets between Glasgow and Newcastle start from just £10.90.

Stuart Jones, Managing Director of First Rail Open Access, said: “This is a landmark moment which will boost connectivity between Scotland and England, offering a sustainable travel option whilst also boosting economic growth.
“It was a particular pleasure to celebrate the launch of our inaugural services in style with a brilliant range of guests from our dedicated team, as well as our partners from Scotland and across the border. We’re proud to champion Scotland and look forward to providing the unique Lumo service to even more customers from this week.”
Lumo has been operating for a number of years with its cross-country service, offering sustainable travel with its 100% electric trains. Onboard, guests can enjoy a single-class journey, “which puts everyone in the ‘good seats’ with optimised leg room and extendable tray tables that can take a full-sized laptop”. As an open-access train operator, the company does not receive any government funding and is currently operating a five-train fleet built by Hitachi.
