While the year of the Fire Horse commenced on February 17, Glasgow still didn’t get a chance to celebrate the Lunar New Year in full force. However, there is still time to mark the occasion, as a massive parade and a street ceilidh are coming to the city this weekend.
Taking place on Sunday, March 1, the Lunar New Year, where visitors can enjoy an afternoon of fun, with music, dance and good vibes.
The timings and location of the Lunar New Year celebrations in Glasgow

As Glasgow doesn’t have a designated Chinatown like, for example, Liverpool, the Lunar New Year dragon parade will commence at 2pm on Sunday, March 1 on the steps of the Royal Concert Hall, making its way up to Renfield Street, then to Bath Street and onto Sauchiehall Street via Holland Street at 2:30pm, followed by a lion dance.
The huge street ceilidh
A massive street ceilidh will then take place at 3pm outside Edward House on 199 Sauchiehall Street, inviting everyone to join in.
The organisers said: “Join in a Strip the Willow ceilidh dance led by a 6-piece piping band from the National Piping Centre. Can a dragon ceilidh? Come and find out!”
Speaking of the celebrations, the event description states: “Bring your friends and family and join us for a vibrant outdoor celebration that blends the best of Scottish and Chinese heritage and traditions. Sauchiehall Street Culture & Heritage District invites you to experience an unforgettable afternoon of music, dance, and spectacle.”
The events are all free to attend, with people of all ages and walks of life welcome to join.
