That sweet smell of a freshly toasted bun, crispy cheese topping the juicy patty and the perfectly crafted sauce. Already drooling? Well, we are; it’s National Burger Day on August 25, and we cannot wait to celebrate the special occasion. El Perro Negro, an award-winning restaurant in Glasgow and Edinburgh, has created a special but very naughty burger for one day only, that will be available on National Burger Day.
Creating the perfect burger is a concept of limitless opportunity: top it with onion rings, blue cheese, barbecue sauce, pixie dust or a small child… It will still taste amazing, well, maybe not the small child part but you get the idea that anything goes. While there are a few theories of the origins of the hamburger, which is technically a glorified sandwich, it has become the sensational food of the 20th century. The 21st Century did not shy away from some sweet burger action either, and National Burger Day, and the burger itself, is as popular as ever today.
So, El Perro Negro has created The Big D burger (which stands for Big Double) that will be available in both Glasgow and Edinburgh for a single day for visitors to messily devour. El Perro Negro Founder, Nick Watkins spoke of his excitement about the launch: “It seemed only right for us to go big on National Burger Day and give our customers what they want – a naughty and messy feast! We’ve stocked up on hand wipes and are ready to welcome Glasgow and Edinburgh burger fans tomorrow!”
You can only sit in the Edinburgh branch at St Jame’s Quarter, and you can both sit in and collect your order at the Glasgow branch on Woodlands Road. For guests who are after something simpler or smaller, they can still celebrate with a classic & cheese burger with caramelised onions, pickles and burger sauce, or vegetarians can feast on the Panko bean burger that comes with katsu mayo, Asian slaw and shredded gem. Whatever you choose, National Burger Day must be celebrated with gusto.
