A neglected Glasgow park is set for a huge makeover, as Glasgow City Council is reviewing a planning permission for a new football pitch, including a clubhouse and stands, as well as a “year-round use of the park”.
The planning permission was submitted by Finnart Football Academy to transform Glasgow’s Amulree recreation ground in Tollcross, boasting a 3G football pitch, a clubhouse, which will be available for community functions and a parking area. What is more, visitors should be able to use the park grounds regardless of the season.
The clubhouse is set to be located where the play area currently is, including changing rooms, while the football pitch should be built where the grass is. What is more, standing stands are planned for the pitch, while the new clubhouse should also include changing facilities and toilets, a community café and meeting spaces, an office space for the academy and “associated landscaping and infrastructure improvements to the recreation area”.

According to the plan, the football pitch and community centre would be open between 9am and 10pm on weekdays, and from 8am to 9:30pm on weekends. What is more, weekdays between 9am and 3pm would be dedicated to partner organisations, while the rest is set to be open to local schools and football teams.
The Finnart Football Academy planning application concluded: “The site is currently underused and derelict in areas, but with this development, it will be revitalised to provide a much-needed local facility. It will retain the existing open spaces and encourage more use by the local community. The existing tree cover will be retained, and the biodiversity enhanced. Impact on the local residential properties will be minimised by providing parking on site and encouraging the use of local transport.”
The planning permission application has not yet been approved, with a final decision pending from Glasgow City Council. However, the Land Lease was approved on March 19, 2026.
