A joyous Christmas village is coming to New Lanark this winter, as the UNESCO World Heritage Site is set to be transformed into a winter wonderland. Visitors can expect a quality family day out with a Santa’s Grotto, theatre productions, festive movie screenings, food experiences and more.
Christmas at New Lanark is kicking off on Saturday, November 30 and will be open between Fridays and Sundays until Christmas Eve, December 24, with an additional opening on Monday, December 23.
New Lanark is a historic site located 50 minutes from Glasgow and is an 18th-century Mill Village founded in 1785. The village later became renowned across the world for its progressive ways of industrial living, setting an example of “philanthropy, education and the welfare of the mill workers”. Having received a UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 2001, the area now boasts an award-winning visitor attraction that helps fund its conservation.
This Christmastime, visitors can experience the village in a new light, with entertainment for the whole family. For example, Arkeen Theatre Company is bringing the production of ‘Pinocchio’, a 45-minute pantomime performance showcasing the beloved story of becoming a “real boy”.
Christmas Films in the Theatre is also expected to attract some interest, with three Christmas classics screening every 45 minutes throughout the day. There will also be a Soft Play and Inflatable Assault Course for the little ones to tackle.
NL Productions is bringing Santa’s Grotto this year, offering lively family challenges and helping spread holiday cheer while visiting Santa and his Elves.
The Mill Hotel is also hosting quite a few festive parties and events, such as Carols by Candlelight with Strathaven Choral Society, Party Lunch with Santa or Festive Afternoon Tea throughout the season.
All Christmas at New Lanark tickets include ‘Spirit of Christmas Ride’, with children’s tickets at £19 and adults for £15, while under 1’s go for £5. You can book them here.
