First, it was a special edition trainer made for the scousers, with the Air Max 95 ‘Liverpool’, and now it’s time for Glasgow to shine. Nike has officially rumoured the Nike Air Max Plus ‘Glasgow’, putting the second friendliest city in the world in the spotlight.
The Nike Air Max Plus ‘Glasgow’ offers a nod to what Glasgow is famous for – its people and their sense of humour. The cone on the Duke of Wellington Statue is just that, having become one of the most characteristic aspects of the city for decades.

The Nike Air Max Plus ‘Glasgow’ are, predictably, black and orange, with a cone embroidery sneaking through the shoelaces over the tongue. And there is more: on top of the classic Air Max Plus features, the shoe has “Mad Wae It” printed on the side heel. For those of you who may not be aware, ‘mad wae it’ means, well, to get VERY drunk. So, it looks like it’s the perfect attire for a weegie night out!

Glasgow has been famous for its patter for a long time, and it all started with someone putting a cone on top of the Duke of Wellington Statue in the late 80s. Glasgow City Council has spent tens of thousands of pounds fighting this tradition since the ’80s, and they’ve lost every round. Edinburgh and Stirling can keep their castles—that traffic cone is ours. No matter how often it was stripped away, someone always put it right back on the Duke’s head.

By 2013, the council officially threw in the towel and abandoned their removal plans, which makes the cone’s current disappearance a complete mystery.
The cone is the ultimate symbol of the Glaswegian sense of humour. What started as a cheeky act of rebellion against authority decades ago has evolved into a bright orange icon for the friendliest city in the UK.

The Nike Air Max Plus ‘Glasgow’ is rumoured to be released in November 2026, with the exact date not announced yet.
