There is simply nothing that beats a dip in the crisp Scottish air, provided the infamous “four seasons in one hour” weather behaves itself. Luckily, you don’t always have to brave the open sea to enjoy an al fresco swim. There are numerous outdoor pools to discover in Scotland, both near and far from Glasgow, depending on how much of a road trip you’re up for.

If you’re after a reliably warm dip with scenery to match, Gourock Outdoor Pool is a standout near Glasgow, uniquely offering a heated saltwater swim with stunning views over the Clyde Estuary. Recently refurbished as part of a £1.8m project, it now features modern facilities and enhanced accessibility. Open now until September 30, the venue includes a large swimming area, a kiddie pool for families, and popular late-night Starlight Swim sessions. With water heated to a tropical 29 degrees, it’s an ideal summer escape just an hour from Glasgow.
St Monans Tidal Pool, Fife
For those seeking a more rugged experience, the St Monans tidal pool in Fife offers an adventurous swim that ebbs and flows with the North Sea. Previously derelict, it was brought back to life in 2021 by a dedicated group of locals who cleared the basin for public use. Visitors should be aware that you’ll be sharing the water with residents like crabs, and since it isn’t professionally maintained, you swim at your own risk!
Tamar Manoukian New Cumnock Pool, East Ayrshire

Located about an hour’s drive from Glasgow, the Tamar Manoukian New Cumnock Pool is a cherished hub for both locals and tourists. The facility boasts a vibrant schedule, including fitness classes like Aqua Fit, swimming lessons, and an After School Club. A single adult swim is priced at £3.50, though frequent visitors can opt for a monthly pass at £30. You can find the full timetable and additional pricing here.

This is easily the most artistic entry on our outdoor pools in Scotland list! Jupiter Artland features ‘Gateway’ by Joana Vasconcelos, a stunning piece of contemporary art that functions as a usable swimming pool. Beyond taking a dip in this incredibly photogenic spot, guests can wander the sculpture park to see other wonders, such as a genuine amethyst grotto.
“Gateway is a big splash that invites the public to immerse in a joyful and spirited dimension… It’s like a threshold to another universe,” explains artist Joana Vasconcelos.
Stonehaven Open Air Pool, Aberdeenshire

While the final two entries require a longer journey, they are absolutely worth the mileage. The Stonehaven Open Air Pool stands out as the UK’s only Art Deco, Olympic-sized seawater lido. Summer here is packed with energy, featuring live music, Aqua Zumba, a water chute, and plenty of inflatables. Entry for adults is £10 for the day, while children (6-18) are £6.60. The Trinkie Tidal Pool, Wick

Way up in the North at Wick, The Trinkie Tidal Pool recently benefited from a round of renovations. This historic spot has provided locals and travellers alike with the quintessential saltwater swimming experience for 70 years, serving as a joyful community landmark whenever the sun decides to shine.
