Glasgow’s Southside community will be buzzing to find out a massive array of free events is coming back to Queen’s Park Arena: film lovers, music buffs and fitness fanatics will all be united in one green location. From classic films and live music to live sports screenings and family-friendly activities, the iconic amphitheatre will host open-air events, championing the best of our wee Southside. More than 35,000 attendees enjoyed unforgettable performances, screenings and events last year, and this summer is set to be even larger!
The Queen’s Park Arena events are hosted by the local, non-profit organisation Inhouse Event CIC, with the summer programme running from June 28 to July 21 and, no matter the weather, will offer locals and visitors alike the opportunity to rejoice in film screenings, creative art workshops, sports screenings, live music and so much more.
The outdoor cinema proved to be a true treat last summer. So, this year, the open-air cinema will showcase the likes of ‘Cults and Classics’ on both weekday afternoons and evenings, including everything from family blockbusters and Disney classics to horror, romance and action films. Expect to witness all-time favourites such as Dumb and Dumber, The Bodyguard and The Little Mermaid, all projected on a giant 7.5/3m LED HD professional cinema screen. To watch a film, guests will need to book online and pay a 50p booking fee. Guys, don’t walk – run to the outdoor cinema this year!
What is more, Not only will the UEFA Euro 2024 knockout round, quarter-finals and finals be screened live, both the men’s and women’s Wimbledon finals will be shown on July 13 & 14. For those looking to get more hands-on, there will be a range of competitive and participatory fitness events and classes, such as yoga, HIIT, Muay Thai, dancing and much more.
The events programme also offers a range of free lunchtime fitness classes like yoga, live sports screenings and performances from local artists and live bands during the Open Stage showcase. To check out the full summer events programme, go to the event’s website.
Chet Capkiner, founding director of Inhouse Event Solutions CIC said: “I’m very excited to welcome everyone in the southside and beyond back to Queens Park Arena this summer. I’m proud to be part of a team that is capable of delivering such a complex programme – and one which we strive to improve every year.
We have buckets of new events this season, including The Glasgow Annual Hip Hop Jam, and our new fitness competition Battle of the Gyms. We want to create a place unlike any other in the city, and be ‘the’ destination that people visit in Glasgow during the summer holidays. See you all soon!”
