Glasgow’s Southside community will be buzzing to find out a massive array of free events is coming back to Queen’s Park Arena: film lovers, music buffs and fitness fanatics will all be united in one green location. From classic films and live music to fitness classes and family-friendly activities, the iconic amphitheatre will host open-air events, championing the best of our wee Southside. More than 30,000 attendees enjoyed unforgettable performances, screenings and events last year, and this summer is set to be even larger!
The Queen’s Park Arena events are hosted by the local, non-profit organisation Inhouse Event CIC, with the summer programme running from June 30 to July 23 and, no matter the weather, will offer locals and visitors alike the opportunity to rejoice in film screenings, creative art workshops, comedy sets, live music and so much more.
The outdoor cinema proved to be a true treat last summer. So, this year, the open-air cinema will showcase the likes of ‘Cults and Classics’ on both weekday afternoons and evenings, including everything from family blockbusters and Disney classics, to horror, romance and action films. Expect to witness all-time favourites such as Braveheart, The Lord of the Rings franchise, Reservoir Dogs, Back to the Future, Frozen, Bridget Jones’s Diary and Scarface all projected on a giant 7.5/3m LED HD professional cinema screen. To watch a film, guests will need to book online and pay a £1 booking fee. Guys, don’t walk – run to the outdoor cinema this year!
What is more, music lovers will also get their fix at the Queen’s Park Arena, with Glasgow Choir Festival on Friday, June 30, from 5pm – 10.30pm, celebrating the power of music and community with a wide array of styles and genres. The events programme also offers a range of free lunchtime fitness classes like yoga, live sports screenings and performances from local artists and live bands during the Open Stage showcase. Chet Capkiner, founding director of Inhouse Event CIC, said: “The Queen’s Park Arena summer programme has been designed to make the southside a place that everybody in the city wants to visit – and with such high-level production behind every single performance, event, screening, activity and show, we know this year is going to be bigger and better than ever. More than anything, we want to bring the community together to celebrate the creativity that makes our area so unique.”
