As the Paris Olympics are about to start on July 26, most athletes have already arrived in Paris by now in preparation for some of the biggest highlights of their careers. Taking place over a 19-day period until August 11, the 2024 Olympics will bring the best of the best athletes from all around the world to compete for that shiny gold medal.
It is no surprise Scotland is abundant with talented athletes, with 33 Scots chosen to be a part of Team GB the Paris Olympics. Overall, 10,500 Olympians from 206 countries are competing for a total of 329 gold medals across 32 sports.
Team GB consists of 327 people, the UK Athletics Olympics team consists of 64 people with 14% being Scots and an overall 10% of the team are from Scotland.
Eilish McColgan is included in the Women’s 10,000m, marking her fourth Olympics and the only Scottish olympian picked four times in a row. Laura Muir, who won the silver medal in Tokyo, has been chosen to race the Women’s 1500m marking her third time representing Team GB.
Megan Keith will be racing 10,000m, Neil Gourley 1,500m and Nick Percy is the Olympics discus thrower.
Josh Kerr is also racing 1,500m, Jemma Reekie and Jake Wightman are both doing 800m and Nicole Yeargin is on the 4×400 m Relay.

Mark Pollard, Head of Performance, told Scottish Athletics: “It is great to see a high percentage representation on the British team for Paris. Across that group of selected athletes there are numerous different stories and different journeys in the sport. There are clear examples of those who came through the grassroots system in Scotland and now have arrived at Olympic level and are winning medals at major championships.
I think it is really positive that we can all see those stories and the pathway that’s been established in Scotland over a number of years now. Younger athletes in Scotland can look up to these role models and see what is possible.”
