The marvel that is Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition has been entertaining crowds in Glasgow since June, and while all good things must come to an end, we’ve got some good news. Thanks to its immense popularity in our dear city, the exhibition will be sticking around for an extra week! You now have until August 21 to see these famous works as you’ve never seen them before. You’re going to want to snap these up quickly though, so get your tickets now.
Taking place at the Old Ice Rink in Braehead Shopping CentreMichelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition showcases the wonder of arguably one of mankind’s greatest artistic achievements in an unprecedented way. You can experience the work up close and life sized at this exhibition – you couldn’t even get this experience if you went to Vatican City and saw the real thing!
This is all thanks to some fancy and very technical digital recreation techniques that not only perfectly emulate the look but also the feel of the artwork. You can experience all 34 frescoes in all their true splendour.
On its own, this would be plenty, but the exhibition offers more. You will be submerged in the world of Michaelangelo and the Sistine Chapel, aided by audio guides and informative signage throughout. You may even discover things you otherwise couldn’t have seen gazing up from the marble floors of the Sistine Chapel.
Michelangelo’s attention to detail in every figure depicted is one full display: from the sinewy muscles draped with billowing robes to the deep set eyes of a frowning face. This is a chance to take in the distinctive brushstrokes and intricate features of the Italian artist’s paintings from a completely unique and immersive perspective. It takes roughly 60-90 minutes to complete the experience, but you are free to explore at your own pace.
