As the cost of living only ever goes up, so do the drinks prices and our local pubs. However, what if we told you there is one pub in Glasgow that has actually taken its prices back to the 90s? Toby Jug wants to become your new local, where people choose to leave the house and socialise instead of staying in.
Located on Hope Street, Toby Jug is probably one of the cheapest places to buy a drink in Glasgow. As we have become accustomed to paying at least a fiver for a pint nowadays, the bar doesn’t want to keep up with inflation. As such, guests can grab a pint of beer or cider for under £2, as well as a selection of bottled drinks.
However, not every single drink is that cheap within the classic pub, as guests will need to pay the usual prices for the premium drinks, understandably.
Toby Jug’s vision is to keep its prices low in order to attract more locals who would rather just stay home to save money, building close relationships with the local community, every single day. After all, you’ll always make new friends over a wee pint in Glasgow!
General manager at Toby Jug, Robert Bowie, told a local newspaper: “We want to be the city centre local. We want people to come to the Toby Jug and have a good time. You can have a good night with a fiver. Some people just buy four bottles, watch the game and that’s them.”
“We do this seven days a week and we want to be your local pub. A tenner at the Toby Jug goes a long way. The bar, which also serves food and cocktails, has won fans over on Trip Advisor with some describing it as “fun and affordable”.”
