Let’s face it – tacos and guacamole are pretty darn great. Mexican food is the perfect comfort food, offering plenty of delicious options. Well, Topolabamba boasts all that and more, making food that makes you want to write songs. So much so that an eleven-year-old pupil from Glasgow wrote a song about his favourite Mexican restaurant and made a music video.
Let us tell you, it’s absolutely amazing, and we are officially obsessed. Sonny Adams from Hillhead, who is now 12, wrote ‘Chicken Tinga Tacos’ to show his appreciation for Topolabamba. The song proved to be a hit among family and friends, claiming his favourite dish is “better than Nando’s”.
What is more, Sonny has been honing his skills at First Chord Music School for the last three years. Tom Walters, the pupil’s music teacher, recognised the song as “special” when he first heard his ideas for the tune. As a result, Tom went to Topalabamba West End to introduce the single, in the hopes the restaurant would be interested in the new taco anthem. Also, can we just take a moment to recognise how important having a mentor is as a child, folks. Teachers, we see you!
Tom Walters said: “Sonny came into class one day absolutely bouncing about the ‘most amazing tacos’ he ate at Topolabamba the previous weekend. He showed me some ideas for the song, and I thought to myself, we need to make this happen!
‘Chicken Tinga Tacos’ was instantly catchy and formed the hook for the song, so we looked at the menu items and it just went from there. We worked out the chords, recorded the guitar part, and I helped show Sonny how to start layering instruments.”
Topolabamba, part of The Hunky Dory Dining Group, partnered with Big Think Agency and produced a music video for ‘Chicken Tinga Tacos’ starring Sonny and five friends, and, honestly, everyone should watch it.
Sonny said: “Me and Tom joked at the beginning that I might get some free tacos out of this, but it’s been amazing that the song has been made into a music video. It’s beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined. I’m super happy, free tacos for life!”
Operations Manager, Topolabamba, Iain Gallie said: “The Chicken Tinga Tacos are always a hit with our customers, but this has been something else. When we heard the track, we knew we had to offer to make a music video with Sonny and it’s been amazing to see it all come to life. We hope Sonny enjoys his tacos and everyone enjoys the song as much as we do – it’s certainly catchy!”
