Those who commute on multiple public transport modes around Glasgow will be elated to find out you can now get the new all-in-one ZoneCard smartcard at half price. Glaswegians can snag the new card for a much cheaper amount until September 23, available to use on Glasgow buses, the Subway, and ScotRail services.
What is the new Glasgow ZoneCard smartcard?
ZoneCard is just what it says on the tin: Glasgow has been divided into seven zones, and the ticket prices are adjusted accordingly to how far you travel. As you travel you just tap it on the Subway, buses or ScotRail services.
Tickets are available for One Zone, Two Adjoining Zones, or All Zones. Plus, Zone Two always includes Zone One.
How far can I go with the ZoneCard?
If you’re travelling East, you can travel as far as Cumbernauld or Croy, which are at Zone 3. Going West, you can go to Largs or Wemyss Bay in Zone 6, while travelling North can get you as far as Garelochhead, Balloch or Helensburgh Central in Zone 7. South, you can go to Ayr or Cumnock in Zone 5.
How do I get it half-price?
To get the ZoneCard smartcard half-price, you have to register an online account on this website until September 23, where a ZoneCard will only cost £2.50 instead of the regular £5.
Once you’re up and going, you can purchase the tickets online. ZoneCards tickets can also be loaded onto any existing smartcard including ScotRail, Subway, McGill’s, Stagecoach and National Entitlement.
Ryan Sorley, chair of the ZoneCard Forum, which represents all the operators participating in the ticketing arrangement, said:
“Since its launch, the new Smart ZoneCard has proved very popular with customers who rely on more than one mode of transport with more than one operator to journey around the Strathclyde area. More than 700 new ZoneCard smartcards have already been purchased at the £2.50 price, with another 700 customers already registering an existing smartcard, for which there is no charge.
Many of these customers are reporting enjoying the convenience of the new one-day and flexi tickets which meet their needs better than before.”
