We all know and love Sloans, as Glasgow’s oldest bar and restaurant is a regular destination for many. And, of course, let’s not forget their Scottish Macaroni Appreciation Club (SMAC)! Well, the popular institution is getting a brand-new dining concept soon, as part of a £500,000 investment to transform the first floor.
Spanning over three floors, Sloans originally opened its doors in 1797, boasting a bar and bistro on the ground floor, a restaurant, a snug and private dining room on the first and its majestic ballroom on the second floor. And, of course, the courtyard deserves a shoutout in itself, and is a favourite beer garden for many.
The “new standalone experience” in Sloans is “inspired by the remarkable characters, stories and history that shaped the venue, and city, over the centuries”. While the exact details have not yet been revealed, watch this space for more to come!
Oli Normaln, owner of Sloans, who also owns brel and Maggie’s Rock ‘n’ Rodeo, said: “Sloans is one of Glasgow’s best-loved institutions and has been part of the fabric of the city for more than 200 years.”
“This investment is about celebrating everything that makes it special, while giving people a completely new reason to experience it.”
“There are more than two centuries of incredible stories within these walls, and with The Merchant’s we are bringing some of them to life in a way we’ve never done before. We are creating something exciting, unexpected and worthy of such an iconic Glasgow venue.”
Sloans is located at 62 Argyll Arcade, 108 Argyle Street, Glasgow, G2 8BG, and you can find out what’s on at the venue, as well as book a table, here.
