The Balmoral Castle has been closed to the public for over a century and a half and was Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite royal residence. And now, the interior and its grounds are reopening to the public for the second time this summer, offering a rare glimpse into the life of monarchs in the Scottish Highlands.
The Balmoral Castle is located in Ballater in the Highlands, and was acquired by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1852. What is more, the grounds are also home to The Secret Scottish Pyramid, also known as Prince Albert’s Pyramid, as well as the Balmoral Cairns.

Balmoral Castle opened its doors to the public for the very first time on July 1, 2024, and is open once again until August 4. Visitors will get the chance to explore the interior of the castle, as well as its grounds and gardens. Guests will also have a chance to indulge in a royal afternoon tea, available from June 1 until August 10.
The tickets are not the cheapest, with the interior tour starting from £110 per person, and the afternoon tea being £70 per person. Guests can also play a round of golf from £70 for a ticket, while a general admission ticket will set one back by £18.50.

The decision to open the Balmoral Castle to the public is viewed as controversial, as Queen Elizabeth II wanted to keep Balmoral private. However, it has been well-received by the public, with people expressing their excitement to visit.
Tickets are now available for sale on the Balmoral Castle website, starting from £18.50 for adults.
