With the Halloween weekend fast approaching, we’d better start making plans. Glasgow’s iconic spot the Barras Market is welcoming Halloween enthusiasts at the end of this month to not only do some shopping, but also put their best Halloween costumes to use.
The Barras Market Halloween Special will take place on October 26 between 5pm and 10pm, bringing all the spooky vibes, themed stalls from local businesses and entertainment. This is a one-off event, so best to not sleep on it. What is more, there should be a fancy dress competition on the spot, and the best costume will receive a special award, therefore winning Halloween.
The Barras Market has been around since 1888, starting off with humble beginnings with a small fruit shop on Main Street, Bridgeton. The current location of The Barras Market on London Road has been around since 1921, when James and Maggie McIver started the new market after the First World War. Initially, the market sold anything and everything from furniture to a single needle. Maggie McIver was also the founder of the Barrowland Ballroom, one of the most famous entertainment venues in Glasgow today.
The Barras team posted on Instagram: “Things are gonna get spooky with a haunted evening up the Barras, right in time for Halloween. A one-off evening special in the run-up to the weekend we’ll have themed stalls, entertainment and more. Maybe even a few scares lined up. We’ll also have awards for best dressed on the night so make sure to get into the spirit of things.”
