Summer is here, so it can only mean one thing: the sun is out, and people are heading to make the most of it at the beach. While Glasgow might not be right by the shore, there are plenty of picturesque beaches less than two hours away from the city. So, we have put a few of our favourites into a list that is worth a visit this season.
1. Culzean Castle Beach
When it comes to beautiful beaches near Glasgow, Culzean Castle Beach is worth the top spot on the list. The focal point of the beach is a stunning cliff-top castle managed by National Trust for Scotland. On top of the rocky beach, guests can roam around the Culzean Castle gardens boasting a deer park, follies, a lily pond and even woodlands to explore. The sandy beach is abundant with rock pools and a rocky shore, with sandy bays where visitors can enjoy a picnic or catch some rays. What is more, the area offers views over the Firth of Clyde, Isle of Arran, Kintyre and Ailsa Craig, serving as the perfect photo op.

2. Troon
Troon Beach has made it onto our coastal towns list, as the beach has received an award of excellence from Keep Scotland Beautiful. The curved sandy beach boasts a convenient esplanade where beachgoers can grab a wee ice cream and a snack. Troon Yacht Haven adds that extra charm to the beach surroundings as well as solace for boat enthusiasts, while the beach is also used by many kite surfers and windsurfers. However, it should be noted that dogs are prohibited from this beach between May and September, so best to choose another beach if you plan to bring pets in the summer. For those feeling like a summer tipple or a proper meal with a view, Scott’s Troon is located right on the pier within Troon Yacht Haven, offering stunning views over the water.

For those who appreciate quieter day trips, Seamill Beach is one of our hidden gem beaches this season. Located around 45 minutes away from Glasgow, the beach benefits from gorgeous views of the Isle of Arran down the Firth of Clyde, just like the rest of the beaches on the list. The area is nice and sandy with some rocky patches while also being backed by grass for those who aren’t too keen on getting sand everywhere. As one of our favourite hidden gem beaches, Seamill Beach can be accessed via public transport from Glasgow or the A737. Plus, the Seamill Hydro Hotel & Resort has a restaurant, bars and spa for those wanting a full day out away from the busy life.
