Glasgow is full to the brim with great, independent coffee shops, so you really have no excuse to visit Starbucks… again. Check out our pick of the best coffee shops in Glasgow, for sitting in or takeaways.
1. Kaf, Partick
Dressed in Scandi chic, this West End coffee shop is a gorgeous spot for a joe. The menu is blessed with Scandinavian-inspired grub and a rotating lineup of roasters, from Sheffield’s Foundry Coffee Roasters, to Bath’s Colonna Coffee. Please note that they can only fit about ten people inside at one time, so time your trip wisely.
Find it at 5 Hyndland Street, G11 5QE;
15 New Kirk Rd, G61 3SJ.
2. Papercup, West End
Somewhat of an institution in these parts, Papercup is quietly (or rather loudly, actually) ruling the Glasgow coffee scene. Famous for its brilliant brews and breakfasts, it might not be easy to get a seat but it’s worth it for even a mouthful of their French Toast.
Find it at 603 Great Western Road, G12 8HX.
3. Verse, Shawlands
With a rotating menu of brilliant coffee from all over the UK and Europe, this hidden gem started off as a pop-up at markets and events around the city, previously known as It All Started Here. It’s not as central as the other shops on this list, but it’s worth the journey, believe me.
Find it at 75 Deanston Drive, G41 3AQ.
4. Laboratorio Espresso, Merchant City
With an espresso bar that wouldn’t look out of place in Milan, the award-winning Laboratorio Espresso is one for the aficionados. The team are always showcasing roasters from all around Europe, with beans from famed roasters such as the Barn and Five Elephant in Berlin, and La Cabra in Aarhus.
Find it at 93 West Nile Street, G1 2SH.
5. Tantrum Doughnuts
What’s a better combo than flat whites and delightful doughnuts ready to give you that much-needed boost? Tantrum Doughnuts is where the beloved sweet treats meet the aromatic notes of its speciality coffee blend.
Find it at 27 Old Dumbarton Road, G3 8RD.
