Unsurprisingly, Scotland is fourth on the list of the most ‘hidden gems’ in the world, coming after England, the United States and Ireland. The best ‘hidden gem’ in Scotland is no different, with Ardencraig Gardens in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute taking the top spot. Located just two hours from Glasgow, the walled garden was originally built for the owners of Ardencraig House, and is now open to the public. Those who visit can delight in colourful flowers and plants, beautifully maintained for a quaint stroll. More exotic plants live within the glasshouse, inviting guests to learn more about the flora of the world.
The garden is open between May 1 and September 30 between 9am and 4pm on weekdays, and 1pm and 4:30pm on weekends. Plus, there is also a tearoom with aviaries hosting foreign birds next to Ardencraig Gardens for those after a wee cuppa.
Johnston Gardens in Aberdeen was named the second best ‘hidden gem’ location in Scotland, while the Library of Innerpeffray in Crieff took the third spot.
