Glasgow is brimming with top Indian restaurants serving perfect poppadoms, cracking curries and noteworthy naan breads, however a popular venue in the city has been crowned the best in Scotland at a national awards ceremony. Many venues across Glasgow were nominated for the Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality Awards with some outshining other Scottish towns and cities to take home top spots and ‘highly recommended’ titles.
One restaurant with much to celebrate as the winner of the Best Indian Restaurant in Scotland award is Swadish. Located in Glasgow’s Merchant City, the fine dining restaurant serving modern Indian cuisine managed to beat 14 other Indian restaurants across Scotland to nab the accolade. Plus, adding to the Glasgow success Charcoals on Trongate received a ‘highly recommended’ Indian restaurant award.
Swadish took to social media after winning the award saying: “We are officially the best Indian restaurant in Scotland. We are absolutely thrilled to have won the Scottish Entertainment and Hospitality award. We thank you all who supported us to win this prestigious accolade last night. We couldn’t do this without your love and support. Love you all amazing people.”
Swadish on Ingram Street is owned and operated by wife and husband team Jas Kumar and Chef Ajay Kumar. Signature dishes on the Swadish menu include curried mussels, crispy kale chaat, tandoori fish tikka, bhatti smoked duck with blueberry chutney, the Tellicherry lobster and lamb shank rogan josh.
Glasgow as a whole was recognised for the amazing hospitality sector the city boasts, with other notable successes including McGoldrick’s Pool & Sports Bar in Rutherglen winning the Best Sports Bar prize, Glasgow West End venue Record Factory nabbing the award for Best Late Night Venue and The Palais on Duke Street received the ‘highly recommended’ Best Independent Bar award. Meanwhile, The Auditorium at Oran Mor landed the Best Wedding Venue title, while Connolly’s celebrated Best Irish Bar success.
