With longer days, (slightly) warmer weather and the seasonal depression gone, spring has brought Glasgow back to life. We’re now planning out day trips to get away from the city during days off, and enjoying the best walks around the city, and plenty of folk are already out in Glasgow’s beer gardens.
While Scotland is stunning no matter the time of year, catching the blooming cherry blossoms in time offers a different kind of wonderful experience that can only be experienced for a few weeks every year in April. So, let’s have a look at the best spots for a blooming marvellous walk in Glasgow surrounded by cherry blossoms.
1. Kelvingrove Park and the University of Glasgow
We love seeing all the images of the iconic University of Glasgow tower as the backdrop to cherry blossoms, attracting locals and visitors alike to Kelvingrove Park in April. What is more, enjoy a wee stroll along the park and around the university, enjoying plenty of more blooms around the spring and summer months. There is also a garden down the side of Glasgow University boasting plenty of quirky plant species and stunning blooms.
2. Blythswood Square
Blythswood Square is the place to be in central Glasgow when cherry blossom spotting. Take a walk along the beautifully kept gardens admiring the pink hues of the petals, while taking in the surroundings like the five-star Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel, or the Charles Rennie Mackintosh neo-classical entrance to The Glasgow Lady Artists’ Society (1908).
3. Glasgow Green
Glasgow Green is one of the largest green spaces in central Glasgow, and is also home to McLennan Arch. The arch entrance makes a stunning background for all the cherry blossom shots, so it had to take a spot on the list. The trees are in bloom now (April 8), so don’t sleep on it for too long!
4. Glasgow Necropolis
What better place to have a relaxing stroll surrounded by cherry blossom trees than… a graveyard? That’s right, Glasgow Necropolis not only boasts cherry blossoms, but also great vistas of the city. While it got some bad reviews on TripAdvisor for not being good enough for a seance, we think it’s more than good enough for a blooming walk.
5. Alexandra Park
Alexandra Park offers plenty of blooms to delight in, with the pink hues of the cherry blossoms in full display until mid-May. Visitors can enjoy a wee stroll admiring the trees and flower beds, as well as observe nesting birds around the pond.
