An exciting new fairground event which brings a slice of the seaside to the city is coming to Glasgow this summer. Running from July 15 to August 7, Clyde Island presents Summer Beach Festival, which will take place in the NCP King Street car park just in time for the school holidays.
The event, which will run all summer, is inspired by New York’s Coney Island and will feature artisan food and drink, live entertainment, fairground rides and attractions alongside a large beach. This will also be the first event to bring a real beach to Glasgow city centre so locals can actually feel the sand between their toes, plus to fully get us into holiday mode there will be a beach club complete with a cocktail bar.
The team behind Galactic Carnival and Spooktacular are looking to create a family and purse-friendly event that will bring the seaside to Glasgow City Centre. Callum Broome, creative director of Clyde Island, said: “We have seen costs spiral across the country so we wanted to bring a little happiness with a Summer Beach Festival for those staycationing this year in Glasgow, with a fantastic food, drink and ride selection.”
The event will have a curated food and drink market, offering the best in Scotland’s street food for the duration of the four weeks. Glaswegian establishment, Pure Sweet, will be launching the food truck concept with their signature milkshakes and ice cream available for attendees throughout the event. More food traders will be announced via the Clyde Island social media, as well as an open call for upcoming traders who would like the opportunity to be part of the event.
The Summer Beach Festival at Clyde Island will include live entertainment, deck chairs to recline in the sunshine and plenty of fantastic, beach-inspired décor. The fairground will include a selection of thrill, family and children’s rides for the durations of the event including a giant wheel, standing at 42m, which will tower over the city giving spectacular views.
All rides and attractions will operate on a token system allowing attendees to pick and choose what they would like to go on. The event will be ticketed operating seven days per week from 10am to 10pm. Entry costs £2 plus a booking fee and there are two token packages available.
The Silver Token Package costing £20 (plus booking fee) includes 25 tokens for the price of 20 and the Gold Token Package costing £40 (plus booking fee) includes 50 tokens for the price of 40. Free tokens can be redeemed at the event, subject to T&Cs, 1 free token can be used per person, per ride. Buy tickets and token packages here.
