Those looking to get hitched at a Scottish castle with stunning surroundings can head to the Isle of Mull. Duart Castle is a 13th-century structure with connections to James Bond himself – Sean Connery.
Duart Castle was home to the Maclean clan, one of the oldest clans in the Highlands, who were also supporting Robert the Bruce in the Battle of Bannockburn in 1324. Actor Sean Connery is actually part of the Maclean clan from his mother’s side, and has also filmed the movie Entrapment within the castle alongside Catherine Zeta Jones.
The castle was entirely rebuilt in 1911 and is now available for visitors to explore its rooms and grounds, as well as for weddings. Couples looking to get married at Duart Castle can have their ceremony outside, or in the castle’s Sea Room, boasting vast views of the Sound of Mull and beyond, as well as inside the banqueting hall or even in the chief’s beautiful private drawing room. The possibilities seem endless!
Plus, there is plenty of room for a dramatic entrance. Use the castle’s private jetty to arrive by yacht, power boat or rib, or just land with a helicopter.
Sir Lachlan, who runs the historic site, said: “We are always delighted to welcome visitors to Duart who choose to have their wedding, or to renew their wedding vows at the Castle. It is a particularly special location for Clan Maclean descendants to return to renew their vows. Say ‘I do’ and make history surrounded by 800 years of life and love.”
The Isle of Mull is also a stunning place located on the West Coast of Scotland, abundant with cliffs, silver-sand beaches, mountains and forests with lochs and rivers. The best way to get there from Glasgow is to travel two and a half hours to Oban before boarding the ferry to Craignure, which is then a further ten-minute drive to Duart Castle.
