That’s right, Fat Hippo, an independent burger restaurant group, is opening on St Vincent Street in Glasgow tomorrow (September 16). They’re treating the first 100 customers to a free burger and chips. The free burgers will be available between 11:30am and 3pm for walk-ins as bookings are only open from Saturday.
The group was founded in Jesmond, Newcastle 12 years ago by a university student Mark Phillips. Ever since, Fat Hippo has immensely expanded across the UK with restaurants in Durham, Cardiff, Birmingham, London and more. And now, they brought Fat Hippo’s first full restaurant to Scotland.
Fat Hippo’s motto is ‘Good food. Messy fingers. Juicy Burgers.’ Simple! There is something for everyone with a selection of choices for all dietary requirements such as gluten-free, vegan or vegetarian burgers. And if you don’t have too much time during lunch, you can always go for the Little Hippo burger until 4pm on weekdays. They also consistently bring on specials and offer the happy hour of burgers: Hippo Hour. Hippo Hour is on weekdays between 5pm and 6pm so you can get shamelessly messy after work.
The Fat Hippo menu is the kind you roll up your sleeves and get a full roll of kitchen towels for. If you’re feeling like some buttermilk chicken, get the Kiev-C burger with cheesy garlic crumb, lettuce, pickles and Kiev mayo. The name speaks for itself and you will indulge like there’s no tomorrow.
Guests can also opt for a more classic option such as the American: a juicy double patty with American cheese, pickles, ketchup and American mustard. It might not taste like freedom and liberty, but you can’t get any more American than that. Fat Hippo also offers a decent selection of starters and drinks as well as all the dirty fries you could ever hope for.
And for tomorrow, it’s first come first served, so make sure to get there early enough.
