Storm Éowyn has put Glasgow in almost shutdown today (January 24), with winds picking up from the early morning. The Met Office has issued a Red Weather Warning For Wind with possible “danger to life”. As a result, some flights from Glasgow Airport have been cancelled due to Storm Éowyn.
As people are urged not to travel today, flights are no exception. Travellers should check with the airline before leave their homes, and Glasgow Airport will operate at reduced capacity during the peak hours of Storm Éowyn.
A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said: “Glasgow Airport is limiting airport operations from 10:00 to 17:00 on Friday 24 January following the significant level of flight cancellations as a result of the red weather alert due to Storm Eowyn.
We advise passengers to check with their airline for up-to-date flight information during this period of weather disruption before travelling.”
What is more, all Loganair flights departing from Glasgow have been cancelled on February 24. The airline posted on social media: “In view of the weather warnings issued, in the interest of safety all Loganair flights on January, Friday 24, have been cancelled.”
EasyJet’s flights to Malaga, London Gatwick, London Luton, Birmingham, and London Stansted have been cancelled today.
British Airways has also cancelled the morning flights to London Gatwick, London City, and London Heathrow.
Aer Lingus and KLM have also cancelled all morning and afternoon flights, while the departure board is currently showing some EasyJet flights facing delays. Ryanair has not yet provided any estimates to departures for their afternoon flights. However, most non-cancelled flights are facing departures after 6pm.
Plus, all ScotRail and First Bus services have been suspended during the day, reintroducing some services once the wind calms down after 5pm.
You can keep up to date with all the relevant information by checking the Glasgow Airport departures board.
