The yearly Michelin Guide Ceremony is one of the most anticipated events in the industry, with restaurants all over the country eagerly waiting to either retain their stars and Bib Gourmands, get awarded new accomplishments and some can even lose their status. Well, last night (February 10) was the big night, with Glasgow hosting the ceremony for the very first time outside of England.
The stunning Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum hosted the event, giving much to celebrate for Scotland this year.
Glasgow retained its two Michelin Star restaurants – Cail Bruich run by Chef Lorna McNee and Unalome by Graeme Cheevers are still the only two Michelin Star restaurants in Glasgow.
Moreover, Glasgow received two new Bib Gourmands this year, newcomer Margo on Miller Street (the sister restaurant to Ox and Finch and Ka Pao) and GaGa run by TV star and chef Julie Lin.
What is more, Scotland retained its famous duo of Two Michelin-starred restaurants that are located just a short drive from Glasgow in Gleneagles, with Restaurant Andrew Fairlie and Glenturret Lalique in Perthshire.
Edinburgh had a great year, with TWO Michelin Stars awarded to brand-new spots. The new stars went to Lyla, run by Stuart Ralston, which focuses on fresh produce and experience, as well as Avery, run by Chef Rodney Wages who takes inspiration from San Francisco. So, Edinburgh officially has SEVEN Michelin Star restaurants!
Skua in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge also gained a Bib Gourmand distinction, boasting British cuisine and “rustic sharing plates”.
However, one restaurant lost its Michelin star this year – The Cellar in Fife. The restaurant lost its star after the loss of its Chef Billy Boyter.
