Not only is Great Western Road full of marvels and cute spots such as the Botanic Gardens, but also it is the coolest street in the UK. As the road is a straight line connecting The Trossachs with the city centre but the stretch between St Georges Cross and the Botanic Gardens is where the magic happens. Beating the likes of London, Manchester and Dublin, Great Western Road came third in an extensive list of the coolest streets in the world, according to this survey.
Around 20000 people were quizzed on what they think is the coolest street in their city. And from all around the world, Glasgow’s Great Western Road proved to be a hit. Over the years, the area has developed significantly and formed to be one of the coolest streets in the world as lots of new spots continue to open. As such, it is a place where there is something for everyone: from quirky wine shops to cosy cafes, and from Glasgow’s only Michelin star restaurant to vintage shops.
During the day, you can pop in for a coffee and some french toast at Papercup Coffee and go find some vintage gems at Glasgow Vintage Co. Or go watch the internationally recognised lunchtime theatre at the beautiful and historic Oran Mor that used to be a church. Not only that, but you can also witness one of the famous Candlelight Concerts in this iconic spot, such as Hans Zimmer’s Best Works and more. Now, it is home to a whiskey bar, a Victorian bar and two restaurants, as well as a live music venue and a nightclub. And in the evening, treat yourself to a Michelin star dinner at Cail Bruich where Chef Lorna McNee will take you on a sustainable dining experience.
Great Western Road is the perfect spot between Glasgow city centre and the West End, where the prices aren’t as steep and it is a bit quieter. Local residents describe the area as friendly and welcoming to everyone. So, Great Western Road is worthy of the title ‘Best Street in the UK’ and we are chuffed that we scored at the top of yet another list.
