Some of us have heard of and seen the shenanigans of Harris the Cat around Bearsden, but most recently, he got into a bit of a pickle that could only be saved by a McDonald’s burger (yes, with a pickle).
Harris the Cat has now gotten himself stuck in a 25ft tree, worrying his owner Julie, who calls him a “rascal”. Previously, the cat had to be retrieved from a local McDonald’s after a two day “bender” – it appears Harris has quite the addiction!
As a result, getting him out of the tree had an easy solution, with the help of local tree surgeon Mike. Mike got Harris the Cat out of the tree in just 10 minutes, tempting him down with a McDonald’s burger.
After his “stunt”, the cat’s owner has (rightfully) grounded him.
Owner Julie told Glasgow Live: “We’ve got a tracker so we know where he is, but he’s well-known in the area. He’s been brought home to us from over a mile away before – he’s a bit of a rascal.”
“He does things like this on the regular, and has become a bit of a celebrity. He turned one in April and has only been allowed out in the last six months, but he goes everywhere – he often likes to go to McDonald’s and the local pubs and swimming pool.
“He spent two days at McDonald’s once, and that’s how I got to know Kirsty, because she brought him home that time after a two-day bender in there.
“He’d been out all night which is what he does, but I went out looking for him and saw he was in a tree clearing. I could hear him and found that he was up a tree.
“I phoned Kirsty, the fire brigade wouldn’t come out and we couldn’t get him down. Her idea was to phone the tree surgeon.
“We got some free burgers from McDonalds and he went up to coax him down and it worked. He was quite distressed but the tree surgeon was great with him and didn’t charge a thing.”
Cats Protection Glasgow Volunteer, Kirsty Ayre, said: “I met Harris in December last year when he was frequenting a McDonald’s having worked out how to use the automatic doors. I managed to scan him for a microchip and return him to his mum, Julie.”
