1. Finnech Glen
Okay, we love Finnech Glen. The spot also features on our day trips list, located just half an hour’s drive from the city. Known as the Devil’s Pulpit, the glen boasts a red base, coming from the red sandstone washed away by the water over time. The hike itself is short and sweet spanning less than a kilometre, yet slippery and challenging when descending Jacob’s Ladder.

3. Inveraray Castle and Dun na Cuaiche Watchtower
Inveraray Castle and Dun na Cuaiche Watchtower is a beautiful walk an hour and a half away from Glasgow. The just under 7-kilometre route takes around two hours to complete, making it a “moderately challenging” hike. Starting at the Inveraray Castle car park, the route to the watchtower is clearly waymarked. What is more, the Dun na Cuaiche Watchtower itself was built in 1756 and has been struck by lightning multiple times over the years. As wet conditions are expected in February, visitors are advised to take extra care on this hike.

4. Ben A’an
Ben A’an is one of the best hikes near Glasgow for those who are prepared for a steeper climb with rewarding views. However, most people manage the walk fine by taking breaks as needed, so I wouldn’t start getting worried just yet. During the 3.7km hike, visitors will encounter breathtaking vistas of Loch Katrine and Loch Achray. However, Loch Katrine is surrounded by mysteries – it is said to be home to Urisks – tiny water spirits who are similar to Fairies and Elves. Urisks are often on the timid side, but you may encounter one if you look closely.
