Looks like Glasgow is getting an ‘Orient Express’ of its own without having to travel anywhere far. House of Gods has big plans for a hotel for a B-listed building on Glassford Street, with bookings open from October 19. Guests will be able to rejoice in a full butler service around the clock, a spa, a rooftop bar as well as a restaurant specialising in Mediterranean food.
House of Gods Glasgow already has a 4-star hotel in Edinburgh’s Cowgate, having seen noteworthy success since opening in September 2019. The luxury brand has taken over a B-listed building at 61 to 65 Glassford Street, which was the site of Mamafubu restaurant and Peckham’s Deli.
The hotel recently got its alcohol license approved, meaning preparations for the opening are in full force. In the meeting, agent Archie MacIver said the hotel will “offer a luxury experience” and has been “finished to a high standard.”
When asked what the butler service would look like, Mr MacIver said they could bring “milk and cookies” when it’s time for bed (very specific, but sure), as well as alcohol, toiletries or anything else the guests might need.
Moreover, the rooms will be priced between £119 and £500 per night depending on various factors such as the time of the year, and 50 new jobs will be created as part of the House of Gods Glasgow opening.
The hotel offers six more rooms than its Edinburgh counterpart, with a new room category which comes complete with four poster beds and an iconic golden bathtub, as well as two spectacular (Rock Star) Presidential Suites located on the hotel’s top floor.
Speaking about the opening, CEO Mike Baxter has said: “We couldn’t be more excited about opening our Glasgow location. It’s a place where everyone knows how to have a great time–and we’re here to treat every guest like the rockstar they are. Creating the ultimate escape here has been our main priority. In addition to offering services like early check-in and late check-out as standard, we have worked alongside incredible artists and craftspeople to create a destination which celebrates true extravagance.”
“From working alongside Siobhan Mackenzie who has designed our team’s uniforms to creating a custom toile de jouywallpaperdesigned by Gregory Lewis, who has previously worked with a multitude of key fashion brands including Chanel, Fendi, and Christian Louboutin to name just a few, I can’t wait to welcome our first guests in just a few weeks.”
The Edinburgh hotel is already delighting visitors and locals alike with its regal décor, three types of rooms and a carefully crafted cocktail menu. The cocktail bar Lilith’s Lounge, boasts cosy speakeasy vibes, plenty of pink hues and lots of pink cocktails.
