This one’s for the whole family – animal lovers can enjoy an adorable day out near Glasgow with seven alpacas, always ready for a trek. Larch Green Alpacas offers just that, offering both trekking and meet and feed sessions.
Larch Green Alpacas is located in Langbank, just half an hour from Glasgow (with no traffic). The spot comfortably sits on a hill overlooking the Clyde Estuary, boasting magnificent views throughout.
The alpacas
The farm is home to seven alpaca boys, each with their own unique personality – Sid, Toby, Eric, Chester, Louis, Walter and Mac. Sid is known as the friendliest, while Toby is the chubster of the bunch. Chester is their “gentle giant”, and Eric is the boss, while Louis likes to “think he’s the boss”. Walter is the naughty boy of the herd, inviting mischief, and Mac is an absolute cuddle bug.
The experiences at Larch Green Alpacas
Visitors can choose from a few animal experiences at Larch Green Alpacas, including Alpaca Trekking, the Alpaca Meet & Feed session, a Mini Trekkers experience for children under eight and the Alpaca Picnic.
Secret Glasgow got the chance to go Alpaca Trekking, bringing Chester and Mac out for a walk. On top of Chester wanting to eat all the grass at every step and Mac having a bit of a jump scare in the woodland, the experience was as wholesome as it sounds. The session lasts one hour and starts with getting to know each of the seven boys and learning more about the breed, making for an informative visit.
Later, visitors get to choose which alpacas they would like to take on the trek before heading up a hill into a wooded area, all with beautiful views over the River Clyde and its surroundings. The experience concludes with feeding the boys treats, who are extremely gentle when picking the carrots up from one’s hand.
