Amazon Studios has officially announced the title for its hotly anticipated Lord of the Rings series with a trailer. Titled The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the new series is set to premiere this September on Prime. You can see the title reveal in the video below.
What we know about the Lord of the Rings series
Releasing nearly 8 years since Peter Jackson’s final instalment of The Hobbit trilogy, the series will take us through the Second Age of Middle Earth’s history.
Producers J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay said in a press statement that the series “unites all the major stories of Middle-Earth’s second age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men”.

Words from Tolkien’s beloved books feature in the teaser, hinting that the series takes place thousands of years before The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
“Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
ne for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.”
However, the famous lines from the original films, “One Ring to rule them all,” have been omitted.
With both the books and the movies being so beloved, expectations are naturally sky high.
Prime Video has confirmed that filming for Season 1 has officially wrapped in New Zealand and Season 2 will be filmed in the UK. The series is also a hot contender for perhaps the most expensive series ever shot for television with an estimated budget of $465 million.
Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will stream on Prime Video from September 2, 2022.
