There are many isles around Scotland, so taking a ferry to access one is not a foreign concept here. While most wouldn’t drive for hours just to go to a pub, making a day trip and an adventure out of accessing some of the most remote pubs in the UK could become a new trend: we can see it!
The Puffer Bar on Easdale Island has been named the most remote pub in the UK by Dojo. Only accessible by boat, the pub and restaurant offers waterfront vistas, outdoor and indoor seating and fresh produce.
As one of the smallest isles in Scotland, Easdale Island is home to 60 people permanently, with many tourists visiting it every single year. The island is also car-free, so you will need to leave your car on the other side of the shore. Visitors will have to take a small ferry which fits 10 people to get there, and the journey only takes around five minutes with regular daily services.
How to get to the Puffer Bar from Glasgow
It should only take three hours to get to Easdale Island from Glasgow driving through Oban to Ellenabeich, and there is a free visitors’ car park near the Easdale Seil Ferry Landing. You can find a rough timetable for the wee ferry here.
Is The Puffer Pub really the most remote pub?
The Old Forge is also considered the most remote mainland pub in the UK, to which you can only get to via an 18-mile hike or a boat. Located on the Northern shore of Loch Nevis on the Knoydart Peninsula, the pub also has no road access and is mainly used by hikers, open until midnight. To get there, hikers will need to make a two-day hike from Glefinnan, which can prove challenging depending on the weather and the time of year.
