TikTok celebrity and TV chef, Jimmy Lee, is further expanding his Cantonese street food business to Shawlands, one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Scotland. The new Salt & Chilli opened its doors on November 18, welcoming guests to enjoy alluring food on Kilmarnock Road in Southside Glasgow.
The Chef’s grab-and-go venture offers a taste of Hong Kong’s frills-free street food, mashing up both Eastern and Western cultures. And now that the paint has dried, here’s a first look for what to expect when you’re there.
Not only a successful restauranteur, Glasgow-based Jimmy Lee also became a TikTok sensation in the past three months, receiving over ten million views and half a million likes as he teaches TikTokkers how to serve up Cantonese favourites in 60-second viral videos. He takes diluting juice breaks and calls water council juice, sounds like a well-deserved instant viral hit to us!
Salt & Chilli Oriental Southside is serving Cantonese street food with a cheerful spin, as well as comforting classics and fusion concoctions that mix traditional Hong Kong street food with a dose of modern Scottish cuisine.
Chef and owner Jimmy Lee said:
“This is our most exciting Salt and Chilli to date. From a takeaway concept in Patrick, to a marketplace restaurant in Edinburgh St James, our first stand-alone restaurant and bar location has opened in Glasgow Shawlands – a location recently named as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world.
It’s a part of Glasgow buzzing with activity and a multicultural community at its heart and with the opening of Salt and Chilli Oriental Southside, I hope we add something new to the incredible amount of food and entertainment options the area has to offer residents and visitors alike.”
