Glasgow is a city full of new and exciting places to discover with some even hidden away from plain sight which makes exploring the city quite an adventure. At Secret Glasgow it goes without saying that we love a secret spot, and this beautiful cocktail lounge hidden within Glasgow’s Southside and from the same owners behind Abandon Ship Bar offers an element of mystic. Plus, the eclectic cocktails on the bar’s menu are rather special.
Set within South American-inspired bar, The Luchador, on Pollokshaws Road, this lavish haunt oozes character and style. With its soft red lighting, shiny bar and stylish décor, Mr Lincoln provides a dose of luxury and excitement, as well as an escapism from the hustle and bustle.
This speakeasy-inspired bar features stylish banquette seating, cosy corners and decadent light fixtures, plus plenty of tassles and rose wallpaper giving a nod to the neon rose lighting that leads you to Mr Lincoln. Whether you’re looking for somewhere for pre-dinner drinks or a catch up with friends, Mr Lincoln is open from 4pm til late and is the ultimate destination to sit back, relax and enjoy a wonderfully-crafted cocktail.
The bar serves classic cocktails with a contemporary twist such as “The Sun”, a twist on the most iconic classic cocktail, the Negroni, it features Blanco Tequila, red vermouth, bitter aperitif infused strawberries and thyme, which is then garnished with a nori seaweed on top. Plus, Mr Lincoln also has some rather special special concoctions such as “Strength”, the bar’s approach to the classic martini, which includes a mix of vodka, vermouth, sichuan pepper, lemongrass, olive oil drops infused with tomato and oregano and garnished with dehydrated aubergine.
At Mr Lincoln, you’ll never have to have the same drink twice since this Glasgow bar is constantly pushing the creative envelope when it comes to cocktails. The cocktail lounge has even created a number of zero waste cocktails such as the “High Priestess”, which includes Jamaican rum, orange-apple-cinnamon oleo, angostura infused tonka, then garnished with vegan honeycomb, leftovers spiced marmalade and an edible flower.
Grab a seat by the bar on a velvet-backed stool and take in its red features and hexagonal-shaped shelves as well as watch the bartender mix some impressive drinks. Or cosy up on one of Mr Lincoln’s sofas and enjoy the speak-easy vibe within in this red den of opulence.
Bit peckish? Head up to The Luchador to enjoy a range of tacos such as slow cooked pork, plum salsa and avocado; crispy hake, adobo sauce and pineapple salsa; or BBQ corn, Manchego and salsa verde. You can also tuck into salty Padrón peppers; pineapple and tofu empanadas with green mole dip; seabream ceviche, pistachio, orange vinaigrette and crispy bread; and chargrilled hangar steak with chimichurri. Plus, The Luchador has a banging brunch menu and make room for their Mars bar taquitos with vanilla ice cream too.
Upstairs The Luchador also mixes up some fine drinks featuring our friend and foe, tequila. However, the bar wants to give tequila the love it deserves by transforming the perception of tequila into an enjoyable experience. Enjoy the likes of “King Cuerno” featuring Tequila Blanco, citrus, grapefruit soda, multizest salt and scorched grapefruit.
