Seafood lovers, rejoice! There is a special coastal place in Scotland made of glass walls to take in the scenic vistas. The Seafood Ristorante has been around for 20 years now, serving up some of the best fish dishes we’ve ever had.
Located at the shores of St Andrews Bay next to the Aquarium, The Seafood Ristorante is a destination restaurant worthy of the trip and is listed on the Michelin Guide. The glass restaurant offers unspoiled views of the North Sea, perfect to savour the moment during the day and sunset hours.
The Seafood Ristorante has built quite the name for itself over the 20 years since opening in 2004, using “fresh, locally sourced and sustainable” produce delivered daily. As a result, guests can delight in seasonal menus crafted by Executive Chef Davy Aspin and his team.
The restaurant’s special 20th anniversary celebrations run from February 20, 2025, to mid-April, with events and exclusive dining experiences throughout. As a result, the Seafood Ristorante launched the Icons Menu, priced at £80 for two courses and £95 for three courses.
Secret Glasgow got the chance to try it for ourselves, sampling the celebratory menu. As I’ve been not-so-subtly raving about the restaurant already, it comes as no surprise the food is an absolute ten out of ten.
For starters, the Baked Orkney Scallop with Asian-style dressing offered a balanced introduction, while the Anstruther Lobster Raviolo with spiced shellfish bisque provided a unique taste of opulence.
However, the star of the show is the Steamed Day Boat Halibut with Shetland mussels, oyster fritter, young leeks and warm tartar butter sauce. The halibut is hands down the best fish dish I have ever had, boasting a harmonious dance of flavours worthy of coming back.
The dessert is also a standout, as the Tiramisu with espresso ice cream basked in its unique presentation with a surprise chocolate lava in the middle.
However, those wanting to visit during the day can opt for the lunch menu, with two courses costing £45 and three courses £50.
Moreover, the wine list at The Seafood Ristorante is noteworthy, with Vermentino, (Calasole, Maremma, Toscana), Gavi “di Gavi”, (Rossetti, Piemonte) and Primitivo ‘Passitivo’ (Appassimento, Paolo Leo, Puglia) being some of the standouts. Plus, guests can treat themselves to Louis Roederer champagne!
Overall, The Seafood Ristorante is a place for stately indulgence, fit for every seafood lover.
