Susan Hill’s The Woman in Black will be setting off on a UK Tour, opening at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on Wednesday 6 September 2023. The smash-hit musical will be coming to Glasgow’s Theatre Royal from March 25 until March 30, delighting theatre lovers with a captivating story based on the best-selling book.
Following Wolverhampton, the tour will continue to Cardiff, Billingham, Buxton, Aylesbury, Southend, Richmond, Poole, Nottingham, Liverpool, Norwich, Truro, York, Birmingham, Bradford, Brighton, Ipswich, Glasgow, Milton Keynes, Dartford, High Wycombe and Crewe.
The Woman In Black production has been around for a whopping 33 years, showing over 13,000 performances in the West End, seen by over 7 million people in the UK.
Directed by Robin Herford, Stephen Mallatratt’s version of Susan Hill’s best-selling novel is about a lawyer who believes he’s been cursed by a spell cast over his family by the spectre of a ‘Woman in Black’. The said lawyer then gets a young actor to help him tell his story and exorcise the fear that haunts his soul. While the story begins innocently, as the characters delve further into his darkest memories, the borders between make-believe and reality begin to blur.
The Woman In Black production first played in 1987 at a pub in Scarborough, and after its humble dbut was brought to Hammersmith’s Lyric Theatre a couple years later. The initial reviews were encouraging, eventually leading to its West End run, apart from The Independent, who regretted the production’s inability to incorporate a live dog.
Director Robin Herford will also be assisted by designer Michael Holt and lighting will be by Kevin Sleep. Further information on tickets will follow in due course, and more dates and cites could also be added.
