
Glasgow International Comedy Festival is here between March 12 and 30, meaning we’d better get familiar with what to expect, quickly. With 550 shows to choose from, the choices may seem overwhelming at first. However, for those looking for something a little weird and wonderful, we’ve summoned together a wee list of the most unusual, quirky shows to see during the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
1. Comedy at the Barras
Paddy McDonnell – 6pm, Sunday 16th March
Larry Dean – 8.30pm, Sunday 16th March
Barrowland Ballroom is a new venue for this year for one day only on March 16. Northern Irish comedian Paddy McDonnell will take to the renowned Barras stage for a solo show featuring his humorous takes on everyday life, whilst Glasgow’s own Larry Dean will also perform in the well-loved venue.
2. Pasta Piñata
Thursday, March 13, 9pm, Old Hairdressers
Okay, so this show is everything in one. Audiences will witness a comedy show that is also a game show, featuring a Piñata filled with… You guessed it… Pasta! Spectators can hit the Pasta Piñata for a chance to win eternal life. Need I say more?
3. Bring Your Own Baby…
It’s Bring Your Own Baby Day at Glasgow International Comedy Festival, with one of the most unusual shows on this list. The daytime shows feature mixed bill line-ups of top comedy stars for adult-focused comedy where babies are more than welcome, no babysitter needed.
4. The Big Baad Comedy Quiz
Thursday, March 20, 7pm at Barras Art and Design
Firstly, there’s a £1000 cash prize at The Big Baad Comedy Quiz. Plus, expect expect bonus rounds, confetti canons and even pyro at The Big BAAD Comedy Quiz hosted by comedians Paddy Linton and Jack Traynor.
5. Cha Cha Real Smooth
Saturday, March 15, 8.30pm at The Old Hairdressers
Hannah Elizabeth Morton is bringing the ultimate kids birthday party with prizes, games and “existential crises galore”. Apparently, there is way more going on at a 6th birthday party than meets the eye!
